Instrument Sharpening
This workshop will include concepts and practical, hands-on experience reviewing sharpening of dental hygiene instruments, including curettes and scalers. Course will include identifying and correcting common dental sharpening errors, while using a variety of sharpening modalities, including hand and mechanical sharpening devices.

Periodontology- A Review of Theory & Practice
Periodontology and periodontal treatment has undergone remarkable changes in the last 10 years. This intensive workshop will incorporate concepts, treatment case studies, and hands on therapy using ultrasonic & hand instrumentation with clinical patients, including the following:

  • Medical & Dental Assessment– considerations for patients of all ages
  • Periodontal disease risk factors- diabetes, age, heredity, smoking
  • Inflammatory process- the relationship between oral & systemic health (metabolic disorders-diabetes; autoimmune disease- pemphigus; blood dyscrasias-leukemia; pregnancy, puberty, etc. will be discussed)
  • Periodontal disease in children
  • Treatment planning & treatment protocols for today’s periodontal patients
  • Soft Tissue Management & periodontal protocols
  • Instrument selection and use for maximizing calculus removal combined with periodontal debridement therapy
  • Prevention, control, treatment and maintenance of periodontal disease

Minding the Body-Embodying the Mind
This workshop focuses on the relationship between mind, body, spirit, health & wellness. Immune function can be damaged by chronic stress and depression, but it can also be enhanced by stress reduction strategies, including herbs, nutrients, and relationships. This fun and interesting workshop briefly addresses understanding how the immune network “works”, while using practical tools for reducing stress, preventing disease and creating inner peace.

Stress, Health & Wellness Workshop
This interactive, 3-hour workshop will focus on the impacts of stress on overall Health & Wellness, and techniques for better managing stress in our everyday lives. Discovering effects of stress, and exploring and using various inexpensive techniques for handling it, will be the focus of the session. Plan to wear comfortable, stretchy clothes, like sweats and/or yoga pants, tops & jackets. This session will include a simple stress test, and exposure to some of the most common forms of stress reducers. Plan to come and have a good time, while learning something new! (Bring a small tub & towel if you would like to participate in a foot soak exercise!)

Local Anesthesia: Review of Pharmacology & Technique
Don’t use your LA skills very often? This course is a refresher of the pharmacology behind the use of common anesthetics, along with clinical observation and review of administration techniques. This flexible, 2-hour workshop focuses on reviewing the skills you want to “brush up” on and takes place in your dental office. Participants will need to supply their own “patients” for the hands-on component.
